I honestly wasn't feeling too many of the fashion choices at the premiere of The Karate Kid starring Taraji P. Henson and Jaden Smith. Most of the frocks with the exception of Regina King were ugly and bland. Ciara, not sure what you were going for but it was not a good look hun. Tatyana Ali struggles to get it right, while Jada's copper mini-dress sent her stock plummeting. Taraji pulled off the best look and that ain't saying much. Hey, maybe the overseas premiere will be better...Prays they have one!

Taraji P. Henson arrived at the Hammerstein Ballroom wearing a a draped tulip skirt style dress at the 2010 VH1 Hip Hop Honors.  Henson was a featured presenter at the awards show in NYC honoring hip-hop artists from the south.

Ann Taylor hosted a soiree at Soho House in Hollywood yesterday to introduce their fall 2010 collection. Taraji P. Henson attended with her lovely mother Bernice Gordon. A svelte slender looking Eve attended as well.

Style Reads: Taraji P. Henson is June Essence Cover Girl

 Essence is on the right path...

...For the moment. Maybe our complaints and gripes have finally been heard and it looks like Essence magazine has finally gotten the message: Variety is the spice of life.

The June issue is a drastic improvement, cover and content wise compared to the last several issues (April and May were great, February we really didn't want to see Reggie "I Don't Date Sistahs" Bush on the cover). As our only voice in glossy media for fashion, style, and beauty news, Essence will have to continue this formula if it is to withstand the era of social media.  It's either change it up or go bust because black women have had it with the same old stories and same old stars. 

Taraji P. Henson shines on the cover in a OMO Norma Kamali swimsuit, a Susanna Galanis agate necklace, and Dannijo rings.  The most noteworthy fashion editorial in this issue, Soft Focus features America's  Next Top Model runner-up (Cycle 3) Yaya in fashions of the blush variety, including a lavender Burberry trench coat, a really pretty J. Crew sequined silk dress and a draped beauty of a dress by Sophia Kokosalaki.

Divas is a celebration of our hottest female entertainers like Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Tina Turner, and Diana Ross. Single Man of the Month Kwame Boachie-Adeji from New York is some good eye candy, and Daddy's Home article is definitely worth a look.

BET will always find something to celebrate, even if award shows dominate most of its programming. Hopefully that will change this year. At any rate, this year's BET Honors took place on Saturday, January 16th at the Warner Theater in Washington, D.C. Gabrielle Union hosted. Honorees include: Queen Latifah, Whitney Houston, Dr. Keith Black, Dr. Ruth Simmons, and Sean "Diddy" Combs. The show will air February 1st on the network. Check your local listings for times.

The Book of Eli directed by Allen and Albert Hughes (Menace II Society, Dead Presidents) stars Denzel Washington as a man fighting to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humans. Guests in attendance included Denzel and wife Pauletta, Ice Cube and wife Kim, Taraji P. Henson, Magic and Cookie Johnson, and Larenz Tate.
