Ciara should have been a model. Her wardrobe tends to have more hits than her records but I can't knock the girl for staying out there. This week she attended the closing viewing of Marina Abramovic's The Artist is Present hosted by Givenchy at The Museum of Modern Art in New York City this week.

Celebrity Style: Thandie Newton & Alicia Keys

Thandie Newton
Alicia Keys
Thandie Newton and Alicia Keys were dolled up for the Keep a Child Alive Black Ball in London. The slim and trim Thandie opted for a beautiful strapless black ball gown with gold fleck detail. Alicia wore a cocktail length feathered gown with a cinched waist, I gather to hide her pregnant belly (she announced yesterday that she and still married music producer Swizz Beats are expecting). Not feeling her dress or her alleged homewrecking but the Louboutins are nice.

Style Profile: Zoe Kravitz
Wednesday, May 12, 2010
The daughter of a sexy rocker and a Cosby kid, Zoe Kravitz was destined to be fashion royalty. The petite beauty who is a spokesmodel for Vera Wang's Princess has given Hollywood a dose of her fashion sense; a mix of glam gal and bohemian rhapsody. Zoe's natural beauty and affluent tastes have made her the cream of the fashion crop.
Style Reads: Taraji P. Henson is June Essence Cover Girl
Sunday, May 9, 2010
Essence is on the right path...
...For the moment. Maybe our complaints and gripes have finally been heard and it looks like Essence magazine has finally gotten the message: Variety is the spice of life. The June issue is a drastic improvement, cover and content wise compared to the last several issues (April and May were great, February we really didn't want to see Reggie "I Don't Date Sistahs" Bush on the cover). As our only voice in glossy media for fashion, style, and beauty news, Essence will have to continue this formula if it is to withstand the era of social media. It's either change it up or go bust because black women have had it with the same old stories and same old stars.
Taraji P. Henson shines on the cover in a OMO Norma Kamali swimsuit, a Susanna Galanis agate necklace, and Dannijo rings. The most noteworthy fashion editorial in this issue, Soft Focus features America's Next Top Model runner-up (Cycle 3) Yaya in fashions of the blush variety, including a lavender Burberry trench coat, a really pretty J. Crew sequined silk dress and a draped beauty of a dress by Sophia Kokosalaki.
Divas is a celebration of our hottest female entertainers like Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Tina Turner, and Diana Ross. Single Man of the Month Kwame Boachie-Adeji from New York is some good eye candy, and Daddy's Home article is definitely worth a look.

Super producer Timbaland celebrated his birthday at Drai's nightclub in Hollywood. But which one of his R&B diva guests rocked the best look? Brandy opted for a short mini-dress with a wide belt and heels, while Ciara went Ohio Player skintight in a sleek pair of leather leggings with a sexy chiffon top. Both ladies opted for bone strait locks, Brandy with Chinese-style bangs and Ciara with the sleek center part. So which of the ladies won this fashion battle? Vanessa Simmons is a natural beauty.
She may be the daughter of rap royalty, but Vanessa Simmons is paving her own niche in fashion. The stylish beauty has grazed red carpets, putting her own touch to trendy looks and classic garbs. She's not afraid to take risks, and proved it by trading her long locks for a short cut. CFB Polls: Where Do You Get Fashion Advice?
Thursday, April 8, 2010
Gabrielle Union can look fly with little effort.
When it comes to fashion some of us are more style savvy than others. If you were fortunate enough to have people in your family with great style, you may be ahead of the game. For me there was my mother and grandmother, whose seemingly effortless style inspired me to take fashion seriously. I began my love affair with fashion the moment my grandmother pointed me in the direction of the dress department of Bealls department store in Texas. "Pick the best you can find," she would say. Immediately I would choose the most glamorous of dresses, with sheer organza fabric, rosette details, lace, or whatever was the fanciest, but not over the top. With shoes, my grandmother, a Ferragamo addict, always suggested I get the best shoes she could afford. The lesson I learned here: Cheap shoes can ruin an outfit. I've invested more money on shoes and handbags that any other accessory in my wardrobe. Let's face it, it's easier to play off a cheap dress when you have expensive shoes. No one can see your dress' label but they can see your shoes. So, The Chocolate Fashion Blog wants to know, where do you get your fashion advice.
