The August Issue of Vogue --a.k.a The Age Issue, named Ethiopian model Liya Kebede, it's It Girl of the Month. Born January 3, 1980, the leggy Capricorn model is a devoted wife and mother, philanthropist, children's wear designer and World Health's Ambassador for Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health.Tom Ford gave Liya her big break when he signed her to an exclusive contract for Gucci's Fall/Winter show in 2000 when he served as head designer. Since then she has appeared on the magazine covers of domestic and international issues of Vogue; and in advertising campgaings for Victoria's Secret, Escada, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Revlon, Victoria's Secret, and countless others.
Liya hails from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Catch her on page 82 of the August issue of Vogue with Christy Turlington on the cover.
